Colorado Ombuzz Blog Offers Virtual Work Pointers

Two recent posts in Ombuzz, the University of Colorado Ombuds blog, provide some timely suggestions for people working at home. The posts are by Liz Hill, the Associate Director of the Ombuds Office at the University of Colorado Boulder. 

"Effective Ways to Maintain (and possibly improve) Productivity While Working at Home" includes advice on:

  1. Stick to a routine;
  2. Create a workspace;
  3. Maintain your regular schedule;
  4. Remember your ABCs – Always Be Communicating; 
  5. Move!; 
  6. Major perk…no commute!;
  7. Fresh air does the body AND MIND good;
  8. No multitasking; and
  9. Children. 
"Supervising a Remote Team (for the first time)" includes advice on:
  1. Frequent and Consistent Check-ins;
  2. Face-to-Face or Voice-to-Voice;
  3. Exemplify Solid Communication Skills;
  4. Explicit Expectations;
  5. Always Available;
  6. Mix Up the Tech;
  7. Prioritize Relationships.
