Experienced Ombuds Moves to University of Washington
The Office of the Ombud at UW has selected Ruthy Kohorn Rosenberg as its next Associate Ombud. She starts April 1, and report to University Ombud, Chuck Sloan. She fills a position vacated by Emma Phan, who moved to Seattle's new Office of the Employee Ombud. Rosenberg had served as the University Ombuds at Brown. Here's the announcement of her departure by Brown's President:
Dear Members of the Brown University Community,
I am writing to share news about changes coming this spring in the Ombuds Office. After more than eight years of exceptional service, Ruthy Kohorn Rosenberg is stepping down from her full-time role as the University Ombudsperson.
Ruthy has accepted an Associate Ombuds position at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Beginning April 1, Ruthy will serve as a resource to faculty, staff and students at one of the largest research institutions in the country. She will also be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Ruthy is widely respected by individuals at all levels for her significant contributions to strengthening our campus culture and climate. She joined the Brown University Ombuds Office on a part-time basis in 2012 and initially provided services to faculty and post-doctoral communities. The Ombuds Office provides an independent, confidential, neutral, and informal resource for individuals who have concerns arising from or affecting their work and studies at Brown. On August 1, 2013, the Ombudsperson position was expanded to full-time status to include all staff (union and non-union) and graduate students, as well as faculty and postdocs. In her role, she interacted with hundreds of members of our community on an annual basis. She also regularly led workshops in academic and administrative departments as well as a conflict management workshop open to the entire Brown community.
I hope you’ll join me in thanking Ruthy for her service to the Ombuds Office and contributions to advancing our goal of building a more respectful and inclusive community.
Sincerely,
Christina H. Paxson,
President Brown University
