Canadian Space Agency Appoints First Dedicated Ombuds

Lynne Laramee has been named the first Ombuds for Canada's national space agency, Agence spatiale canadienne, in Longueuil, Quebec. Previously, the Office of Shared Ombuds Services, headed by Judith Brunet, provided Organizational Ombuds services for the agency's 1,000 employees. Laramme moved into the position after serving as the Executive Director of Human Resouces for the agency for three years. Prior to that, she was the Director of Executive Services for Shared Services Canada. Laramee graduated from the University of Ottawa. (LinkedIn.)

Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
