University of Nevada Las Vegas Selects Assistant Ombuds

Brie Starks has been hired as the Assistant Ombuds/Program Manger at UNLV. In this new, full-time role, she joins David G. Schwartz and will assist in providing services to 35,000 campus stakeholders at the urban, public university.

Starks has over a decade of experience in DEI and ADR, including stints at Working to Extend Anti-Racist Education, Inc., National urban League, Duke University, and Human Rights Watch. She graduated from the University of Michigan and earned an MSW at the University of Pennsylvania and JD at North Carolina Central University. (UNLV News; LinkedIn.)

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals.
