American InterContinental University Selects First Ombuds

Brooke Wichmann, CO-OP, has been appointed the first Ombuds for AIU, a private for-profit university based in Schaumburg, Illinois. In this new, full-time role, she will establish and manage a program to serve 11,000 students. Wichmann comes to AIU from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she has been the Associate Ombuds since 2021. During that time, she also served as an interim Ombuds for UT Chattanooga. Organizational Ombuds

Organizational Ombuds serve as a confidential, independent, neutral and informal dispute resolution resource for a specific entity. They are accessible to a defined population and can advocate for fairness. These unique characteristics distinguish Organizational Ombuds from Classical Ombuds, mediators, arbitrators, and other alternative dispute resolution professionals. The term "Ombuds" is shorthand for "Ombudsman," "Ombudsperson" and "Ombuds Officer," which also are used widely.
