Job Posting: University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign
Illinois' flagship university is hiring an Associate Dean of Students and Student Ombudsperson. This would be the first campus-wide Ombuds position for UIUC; existing Ombuds serve the College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and the Prairie Research Institute. Meanwhile, there is no apparent progress on a Faculty Ombuds, which the Senate has sought for over a decade. The IOA-compliant position will serve a student body of 60,000 (one of the largest in the U.S., begging the question of whether this hire will stand up a larger program). The target start date is August 2025.

To quote the great philosopher Jeff Spicoli: Righteous bucks! With a constituency of 60,000, 2% usage would be 1200 unique cases per year. With 2080 working hours per year (about 1,280 during a 32-week academic year (fall:spring), there is precious little time available for whomever they hire to do outreach, be involved on campus, and evwn do basic follow-up on matters unless this is intended to be a management position tasked with standing up an ombuds team. In either case, they are not paying for what they are expecting. This is NOT A-Dean compensation.
