Experienced Ombuds Moves to UC Merced

Hector Escalante will be the new Ombudsperson and Director for the growing University of California campus in Central California. He leaves the University of the Pacific, where he has served as the inaugural Ombuds for the past seven years, and fills a position vacated by Callale Concon, who moved to the UC Office of the President. He will join Assistant Ombudsperson, Chanelle Reese, to provide services to students, staff, and faculty.

Escalante also has served as the Ombuds for Earthjustice (since 2018) and the Union of Concerned Scientists (since 2020). He has been an author and Associate Editor of the Journal of IOA, Foundations instructor, and currently serves on the IOA Board of Directors. Escalante graduated from the University of the Pacific, and earned a Master's degree from National University and EdD from UOP.
