University of the Bahamas Names Next Ombuds

Wendyi Poitier-Albury has been appointed the new Ombudsperson for the public university based in Nassau. She follows Marisa Mason-Smith, who established the program in 2019. Poitier-Albury will serve faculty, staff, and students at UB campuses across the Lucayan Archipelago. She will practice to IOA standards. 

Poitier-Albury has worked for the university nearly three decades. Her tenure at UB includes serving as Assistant Professor and Secretary of the former College Council, where she contributed to the Presidential Transition Team. She was the first Director of the Health & Safety Department and in her most recent role as Director of Employee and Industrial Relations. Her career also includes nearly a decade with the Royal Bahamas Police Force and experience as a high school guidance counselor. She is an active volunteer with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and The Bahamas Alzheimer’s Association. She graduated from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill and earned a Master's from Eastern Kentucky University. (Bahamas Press; LinkedIn.)
