The program examines the Ombuds function from a variety of legal, ethical, organizational, and practical perspectives. Topics include analyzing and handling complaints, choosing among advising, mediation, and investigation, managing role boundaries and expectations, translating signals into organizational change, moral leadership, and systemic approaches to Ombuds work. Participants will also develop an individual research question based on their professional practice and work in groups on a practice-based research project.
The instructors include several current and former University Ombuds, including: Paul Herfs, a former Ombuds at Utrecht University, Jacqueline Schoone, Ombuds at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences; and Leo Klijn, former Ombuds at the Hague University of Applied Sciences. Herfs's book, The Importance of Ombuds Work, is one of two books provided to participants. The masterclass is taught in Dutch, is limited to 20 participants, and costs €2,750. (UU Course Info.)
