Update: Ombudsman Races to Top of World Standings
After an impressive win at the Juddmonte International Stakes in York, England, the four year old thoroughbred stands alone at the top of Longines World Best Racehorse Rankings. This recognizes Ombudsman as the best active racehorse in competition this year. The four year old colt, is expected to race next at the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar in California on November 1, 2025. ReplyDeleteI love this. My money is on him at Del Mar. Looks like he is owned by Godolphin, a global thoroughbred breeding operation and horseracing team founded by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. I am curious how they landed on that name!
ReplyDeleteMost ombuds also seem to prefer grains turned into beer or spirits, not consumed from troughs. Most, anyway.
ReplyDeleteLet's not celebrate this. Having grown up in, and worked in the Thoroughbred industry until the age of 28 when I took a hard look at the cost, the entertainment factor is not worth the suffering; 1500-2000 horses die each year at the track and thousands perish or are sent to slaughter on the way there.
