University of Iowa Names Assistant Ombudsperson

Heather J. Erwin has joined the Ombuds Office at Iowa as a half-time Assistant Ombudsperson, reporting to University Ombuds Chanelle Reese. Erwin also serves as an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. In her Ombuds role, Erwin brings experience in conflict navigation and restorative practices. 

Erwin previously served as Director of the Liberal Arts Beyond Bars college-in-prison program at the University of Iowa, where she mediated concerns among faculty, corrections staff, and incarcerated students and facilitated dialogue across institutional and power boundaries. She graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law and earned an EdD from Northcentral University. She also holds a Certificate in Restorative Practices from San Diego State University.
