New York University Names First Administrator Ombuds

NYU has appointed Seamus Mullin as its first Administrator Ombudsperson. In this new role, he will provide services for administrators to discuss workplace concerns off the record, explore options, receive coaching and referrals, and raise systemic concerns. The office follows IOA standards and starts operations on October 1, 2026. Mullin joins Randy Hertz, Vice Dean of the Law School, who also serves as the Ombudsperson for students with issues "dealing with the ABA’s accreditation standards, the University or Law School policy, classes or personnel" and Frieda Hoffman, Director of Faculty Relations, who functions "in many respects like an ombuds who offers impartial guidance, helping faculty and academic leaders navigate complex personnel issues, and fostering constructive dialogue." Mullin has worked at NYU since 2013, most recently as Assistant Director of HR Communications.
