Job Posting: Defense Human Resources Activity

The U.S. Department of Defense Field Activity that supports the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness is hiring a full-time Ombudsman. It is not clear whether this is a new DHRA position. Previously, the agency had hired Ombuds to mediate complaints between military service members and their employers. This posting seeks a more typical Organizational Ombuds.

"Typical" work assignments may include:
  • Serving as an Ombudsman for DHRA Enterprise providing technical expertise and direction for all aspects of the organization's internal mechanism for alternate dispute resolution (ADR).
  • Maintaining integrity in receiving complaints and grievances from employees.
  • Conducting research to obtain background information relative to incidents, issues and actions by utilizing databases, reviewing records, and searching historical files to assure the coordination of responses.
  • Developing training materials and conducting training sessions to educate employees, supervisors, and senior staff to ensure that the vision and goals of the ombudsman program are not only understood but utilized successfully.
  • Establishing and maintaining liaison with various elements of the organization, higher headquarters, and individuals internal and external to the serviced population.
Some travel is required. Applicants must have at least one year of Ombuds experience and be a U.S. citizen. The GS 13/14 positions pay $99,172 to $128,920 per year. Applications are due October 17, 2019. (USA Jobs.)
